The old unit had run its course. A worn-out 2-ton system that just couldn't keep up with demand anymore - and with summer heat bearing down, that's not a situation you want to sit on. So we pulled it out and put in a new 2.5-ton AC-only condenser that's actually sized for the job.

Here's what made this one a clean upgrade rather than just a straight swap. The existing ductwork was already sized to handle the step-up in capacity. That's not always the case, but when it lines up like this, you get better airflow and performance without the added cost of tearing into and reworking the duct system. We tied the new condenser into the hydro air handler and let the existing infrastructure do what it was already built to do.

The hydro air handler itself sits tucked in the attic space, connected to the copper refrigerant lines and tied into the duct runs throughout the house. That handler is what takes the cooling from the outdoor unit and distributes it through the home. Getting it dialed in properly - good connections, properly evacuated lines, correct refrigerant charge - is where a lot of the real work happens on an AC installation like this.

A vacuum pump and Fieldpiece micron gauge are part of how we verify the system is properly evacuated before charging it with refrigerant. It's a step that matters a lot for long-term reliability. Skip it or rush it, and you're setting the system up for problems down the road. We don't cut corners there.

The finished outdoor unit sits level on a new treated wood pad with gravel underneath for drainage - a solid, stable base for the condenser to run from for years to come. If your AC is struggling to keep up or you know it's getting close to the end of its life, a properly sized replacement can make a serious difference in how your home feels all summer long.
